Opioid Education

In 2017-2018 MICIS has focused our educational outreach exclusively on opioid education required by Maine Law, Chapter 488 and by the rules of the Maine Department of Health and Human Services and various prescriber licensing boards.

Presentation topics in 2018 include an update on Maine opioid prescribing laws and rules as well as clinical content with a compassionate, patient-centered perspective.

  • Opioid Use Disorder and Medication Assisted Recovery: Caring for Our Communities
  • Alternative Treatments for Chronic Pain
  • Recent Legal Changes Affecting Opioid Prescribing in Maine

Educational methods include didactics, video, individual exercises and small group discussions.

In 2018 MICIS has scheduled five presentations of Improving Opioid Prescribing and Patient Safety (Brewer August 21, Auburn September 12, Augusta October 16, Wells October 17, Portland November 26).  This 3-hour presentation is an updated version of the broad, clinical and legal review of opioid prescribing in Maine first presented by MICIS in 2017.  See the News and Events section below for registration information.

NEW DATE: An additional presentation of Improving Opioid Prescribing and Patient Safety has been scheduled for Wednesday, November 28 in Brewer.  Online registration information will be posted here soon.
